Long Bank Holiday Weekend

By 31st August 2015December 18th, 2015No Comments

When I booked this Thursday and Friday off I hadn’t realised it was a bank holiday weekend, and with the added bonus of the University being closed on Tuesday, I’ve had six days off! This has given Helen and I a chance to have a little explore of some more of our new local area and attractions.

DUKE8970I hope you like the little map I made to give Helen a visual of where some of my suggestions were 🙂

DUKE8974 DUKE8979On Thursday we headed up Derby way and found a lovely little family run garden centre, complete with a petting farm with donkeys and ducks, cows and chickens, peacocks and pigs!

DUKE9022A sunny day trip, friendly animals and a box of plants makes for a happy wife!

Visited our local free-range (egg) chicken farm and shop. Lovely to see the chickens run to us, squawking away for food.

DUKE9034Just down the road from our new place is a great water park built on the site of a disused gravel pit. It’s bursting with life, from families out on a summer walk to the water birds and insects, and a group of granddads with their remote control sail boats.
DUKE9040 DUKE9043 DUKE9058 DUKE9065On Saturday we drove out to the peaks. Bakewell is only 45 mins up the road, so naturally we stopped off to pick up a bakewell pudding on our way to Castleton for a little walk.
