With many of our weekends busy leading up to the new year, we decided to make our yearly visit to the South West early this year.
The main reason we were down was to visit the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster, but decided to explore other areas whilst down. After a fair few hours driving, we thought some sea air was needed. Having been to a few of the larger towns on the coast, we chose Seaton for our brief passing visit.

After stretching our legs a bit, it was soon time to check-in to our B&B.
A few hours later, and with tummies full up with a slap-up meal, we woddled back to our countryside retreat to be treated to the most spectacular starry sky. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many stars!
As if we hadn’t consumed enough of the South West’s delicious produce, we had a full-ish english breakfast the next morning.

With very little open on Sunday’s we drove right up to Exmoor National Park for some nice walks and views – it didn’t quite go as planned.
We set off in heavy mist for a gentle 5 mile round trip to the summit. About an hour in we clearly weren’t going the right way so asked another walker to see their map. Having walked about 3 miles past the fork in the road, we turned back to find it. Thankfully in a slightly lighter mist, and different direction we spotted our path and made it up the short route to the summit.
This is the final slope to the summit… not that you’d see it.
Helen figuring out the route down. Thankfully it using the compass we picked the correct path down.
